Born and raised in Richmond, BC, Jamie Lam is a Canadian director, writer, and filmmaker of Hong Kong descent. A second-generation immigrant, she identifies as a Third-Culture kid who grew up on a mix of TVB Hong Kong dramas and YTV cartoons.
Her latest short film, "The Mess We're In" screened at over 20+ festivals including TIFF Next Wave, and won several awards including “Best of BC” at the 2023 Chilliwack Independent Film Festival, and is streaming on CBC Gem as a part of Season 17 of CBC Short Film Face Off.
Jamie is an alumna of the VIFF Catalyst Mentorship and Pacific Screenwriting Program’s Story Department Internship. She has participated in programs such as the Filmable x Questcoast Studios Director’s Workshop and Ins Choi’s TV Writing Workshop. Jamie has her BFA in Film Production from the University of British Columbia.
Her tender work aims to explore the nuances in how human connection is pursued, built, or undone. She strives to contribute to the landscape of media as a woman of colour focused on fostering empathy and understanding.
Jamie is privileged to live, work, and play on the unceded traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.
